From today, everything is measured relative to 2027, the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, said while addressing the public yesterday, and added that Expo 2027 would change Serbia. He said that all the project that are planned to be done in the next four years would cost around EUR 12 billion, not counting the project for which the money had already been secured, RTS reported.

Prokop in slightly over two months, bus station in 2025

Vucic announced that the Prokop rail station would open slightly more than two months later. Also, he added, 18 kilometers of the railroad is being built, so it will be possible to reach Prokop directly from the airport.

– You can reach the National Stadium from the city center in half an hour. The train will go further, to Obrenovac – said Vucic, as reported by the Beta news agency.

As he said, this pertains to 18 km of the two-track Zemun Polje-Airport-National Stadium railroad, for a speed up to 120 km/h, whose construction will cost around EUR 140 million.

He added that five new trains for the “EXPO line” would be procured.

Vucic also announced the New Belgrade Rail Station for two years from then.

The bus station will be finished by 2025, the president announced.

– We have finally started this, although we are very late – Vucic added.

National stadium has to be finished by autumn 2026, whole EXPO by December 2026

Vucic said that the national football stadium needed to be finished by the autumn of 2026.

– We hope it will be even sooner. We believe that it will be the most beautiful football stadium in the whole Europe – Vucic pointed out.

Next to the stadium, he added, will be commercial features, for whose construction the country will seek help from all its experts, who will be invited, and the citizens of Belgrade and Serbia, who will say how it should be done.

He announced that the entire EXPO had to be finished by December 1, 2026, and that a lex specialis would be adopted so that EXPO would be built fast.

For our pavilion, the president said, a national architectural contest will be opened in September.

Residential units will also be built, 1,500 residential units for around 3,000 people, which will be put up for tenders for purchasers at affordable prices immediately after EXPO.

For the future EXPO, as announced, 8 km of city boulevards, interchanges, a gas pipeline, a heating pipeline and a cooling pipeline will be built.

Over 100 facades to be done in 28 cities of Serbia in the next three years

– Expo 2027 is no charade, we will do it with great enthusiasm and people’s work – the president of Serbia said and added:

– This is an area of 212 hectares, which will also feature the national football stadium, commercial features, residential units, accommodation units for the participants in EXPO and a new fair, but also a new railroad.

What’s important when it comes to EXPO is that other cities in Serbia will not be left out either.

– In 28 cities, aside from Belgrade, we will do 100+ facades in the next three years and thereby make those cities more beautiful and attractive to tourists – Vucic said.

The north part of Serbia will have plenty of new features. Very quickly, the railroad to Subotica will be finished, the construction of the fast railroad to Nis and the branch toward Dimitrovgrad is to start, as is the construction of the ring road around Kragujevac, and with the state’s help to the local self-government, the City Market will be completed as well.

More plans for Belgrade

As Beta reported, Vucic announced that the new Sava bridge would be built as well and that they had “some ideas” for the old one, but that they would discuss that with the citizens.

The old rail bridge, as he said, would be turned into a footbridge with restaurants.

He also said that the post office building on the Sava Square would be given back its old look.

When it comes to the location of the old fair, he said that Serbia and Belgrade Waterfront had signed an agreement in March 2023 and added that Serbia would keep Hall 1 in its ownership and that 62% of that space consisted of public areas and 38% of residential facilities.

He also said that “a big panoramic wheel” would be built on the Sava.

Vucic also said that the works on the subway system would be visible “at every corner” not long after and added that he hoped that the first line could be completed by the end of 2028.

In the next two years, he also announced the “Sail Serbia” project, which entails 12 stations on the Danube, of which the first one will open in September in Zemun, as well as the launching of a river taxi service.

Near the Museum of Contemporary Art in Usce in Belgrade, according to Vucic, the first Nature Musuem will be built, as well as a “museum quarter”, or a “culture quarter”, because the Philharmonic building will be raised nearly, as will be an aquarium in the Zemun part.

According to him, a large part of the BIO 4 campus is expected to be completed and occupied by 2027.

The prime minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, emphasized that the country would buy another supercomputer using the budget funds in order for Serbia to become a leader in Europe when it comes to the development of artificial intelligence.

Sail Serbia

The president of Serbia also announced the “Sail Serbia” project for the next two years, which entails 12 stations on the Danube, the first of which will be opened in September in Zemun, as well as the launching of a river taxi service.

Also, as he said, a tourist cruise ship will dock in Zemun, for the first time.
