The future of mining is in investments, the opening of new mines and the creation of new jobs, an increase in productivity, a greater social security and better working conditions, said Jian Ximing, the general director of Serbia Zijin Copper d.o.o.

He also emphasized that it was the duty of all people from the management to secure work safety for the employees, the optimal working conditions and an adequate award for the job they’re doing.

– On the other hand, it is our obligation to provide a healthy living environment for the citizens through the implementation of world standards and modern business technologies. For this reason, the company has so far invested around USD 750 million in renewing mining and metalworking facilities, and, of that sum, USD 126 million has been put into solving environmental problems – said Ximing, according to the company’s press release.

According to him, the first results of these investments will become apparent as soon as the end of August, when the new system for the filtering of smoke gases is to be put into operation.

– Thanks to the operations of the desulfuring system, the emission of sulfur dioxide will be reduced by more than 95%, which will be fully in line with the EU standards. We will process sulfur-dioxide and turn it into gypsum. We will produce 30,000 tons of gypsum a year in the big new facility, which will become operational soon, and we will sell the gypsum to the construction industry – he announced.

He reminded that, in the first half of 2021, Serbia Zijin Copper produced 35,400 tons of cathode copper and 691.17 kilograms of gold. This year, the company placed first on the list of exporters from Serbia.
