The Greek investor who has recently received support from the Leskovac municipality to rent the entire Green Zone in that city in order to grow algae on an area of 100 hectares will not be able to fulfill his intention, the Biznis&Finansije web portal reports.

This decision of the local self-government has not been approved by the representatives of the EU PROGRESS Program, which aims to improve living conditions and investment climate in south and southwest Serbia and is mainly financed by the EU and the Swiss government.

According to an explanation provided by the people responsible for the implementation of this program, the Green Zone project in Leskovac was launched with the aim of making that zone one of the most important centers for organized collection, processing and distribution of agricultural products in southeast Europe, which requires the presence of numerous investors from various fields. A total of EUR 1.2 million has so far been invested in infrastructure development in the Green Zone, with EUR 0.5 million provided by EU PROGRESS for modern public utility equipment.

According to Marko Vujacic, deputy manager of EU PROGRESS, the Greek investor will be given a chance to invest, only not under the conditions he asked for, but in the same way as such opportunity is given to all other interested investors.
