Tender for reconstruction of Port of Prahovo announced for this year – Works worth EUR 36 million

The Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of Serbia, Goran Vesic, pointed out during his visit to the Port of Prahovo near Negotin that, in 2024, the tender for its reconstruction would be opened and that it was an investment worth EUR 36 million, to be financed from the state budget.

Vesic said that the capacity of the port at that moment was around 1.5 million tons a year and that, following the reconstruction, it would be 3.5 tons.

He added that the reconstruction would include the closing of the winter facility, the construction of facilities and the head office building, which would house the customs office, the harbor master’s office, as well as all other state organs necessary for its functioning.

He said that the works would last around three years and that the port would work all that time.

Roads and railroads

He added that the fast traffic route to Golubac would be completed in September next year and that the traffic route to Brza Palanka was already being designed.

– I hope that, next year, we will be able to start the construction of the fast route to Brza Palanka – said Vesic.

He added that, the fast route to Negotin was to be built after that, which would enable the citizens of that city to travel to Belgrade in slightly over two hours, and that it would fully change the quality of life for people living in that area.

He also said that there were efforts toward the reconstruction of a part of the railroad in in eastern Serbia from Mala Krsna toward Pozarevac, Bor, Raspatica, to Nis, Zajecar, Negotin and Prahovo.

– There was a total of nearly 97 kilometers of a railroad there, of which 75-77 should be reconstructed. We are currently looking for a partner and we plan for the railway to be reconstructed for a speed of 120 kilometers per hour – everywhere where the section allows for it – said Vesic.

He added that he had also talked to his Bulgarian colleague about the railroad between Negotin and Vidin and that the connecting of Prahovo and Vidin would be very important, because it would contribute to the development of the port itself, but also enable all companies, Zijin, Elixir and others, to work much better.

– That would certainly raise the attractiveness of investing in this area, because other companies arriving here would know that they also have a connection toward Bulgaria as well – said Vesic.

He added that, within the construction of the fast route, the construction of a bypass route around Negotin would be planned as well, so that the trucks would not overburden the traffic in the city center.

– I gave an order for this to the designers. We’re talking some additional 12 kilometers – said Vesic.
