Four Big Bridges Planned on First Banat Highway – Testing of Humus on Route to Begin in Around One Month

On the route of the first Banat highway, Belgrade-Zrenjanin-Novi Sad, which will be 105 kilometers long, the construction of four large bridges is planned – two across the Tamis, a bridge on the Begej and a bridge on the Tisa. Four bridges on the canals and road passes, as well as rail crossings, are planned as well. Twenty overpasses, seven underpasses and 47 culverts will be built as well.

At the moment, there is a big construction site in Jabucki Rit, and the preparatory works for the construction of the Belgrade-Novi Sad-Zrenjanin highway are in progress. The contractor is the Chinese company Shandong Hi-Speed Group, and Lu Yunfeng, who has already worked on numerous projects in Serbia, is one of the main engineers.

There are over ten construction machines on the site. It is known that there are ground waters in this area, and sand is currently being extracted, which, once dried, will be used as a road layer.

– Since this is a plain, this part will not be difficult to do, it will only take more time for the transport, because many tours of sand will be transported – says Lu Yunfeng.

The first highway in the territory of Banat will connect Belgrade, Pancevo, Novi Sad and Zrenjanin, but also the municipality of Opovo.

– Considering that the commercial contract has been signed with the investor, the Corridors of Serbia, the conditions have met for the preparation of the preparatory works to start, as well as the project documentation. The contractor’s plan is to do the project documentation in phases and do the works in line with the progress of the expropriation and the enabling of the contractor to enter certain sections – points out the technical manager at Shandong, Predrag Milanovic.

The project is demanding because the traffic route is long and cris-crossed with canals and rivers, says Lu Yunfeng. However, he doesn’t expect any problems, because the terrain is flat for the entire length.


– In about a month, depending on the building permit approval, the testing of the humus, the testing of the soil, is to begin on the route, and the sand that dries will start being built into the route. Our laboratory has already started testing the earth samples for the embankment. The result is positive and it can be built in. The bridges will be demanding, because there are lots of them. Project documentation is being prepared for them and, as soon as it is ready, we will send the mechanization and the teams to build them – points out Lu Yunfeng.

The Chinese company plans to, at one point, open a construction site near Zrenjanin as well, that is, to have the works done from both directions simultaneously. The plan is for the highway to connect with the ring road near Ovca in Belgrade, and the section from the Ovca interchange to the Glogonj Jabuka interchange will be built first.
