The prime minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, stated today that the Center of Excellence in Kragujevac, which spread on 11,500 square meters and in whose construction EUR 18 million had been invested, would begin working in April or May 2024.

While taking a tour of the finishing works on said facility in Kragujevac, Brnabic emphasized that the tender for equipment and furniture was to be opened now and expressed her conviction that the employees at the center would start working in April or May.

According to her, the Science-Technology Park in Kragujevac will be temporarily located in the Center of Excellence, making that city the fifth one in Serbia to get an STP, but only temporarily.

To clarify, as she explained, Kragujevac needs a much bigger science-technology park than the one within the Center of Excellence, which has only 500 square meters, which means that, as soon as the first quarter of 2024, the construction of an innovation district would start next to the State Data Center, fully financed from the budget of Serbia.

She estimated that the innovation district was one of the most beautiful projects in Serbia, prepared by local young architects.

The prime minister added that she expected Kragujevac to continue the strong development which had been launched some seven or eight years before and also expressed her belief that the State Data Center had stimulated the development of that city.

Thanks to the Data Center, we will practically get a whole innovation district, because the American company Oracle, which provides its cloud-based services worldwide from this center, wants to have a bigger team here, so Kragujevac will be home to Orace in Serbia, Brnabic said.

Also, as she pointed out, there are talks with Mind Group about opening another STP, but also with representatives of CERN about having a supercomputer at the State Data Center in Kragujevac for the processing of big data for CERN in Geneva, whereby Serbia would be one of only six countries which have that.
