He pointed out that Okutataragi is the biggest RHPP in Japan and one of the largest ones in the world, a very impressive facility which secures the needs for peak electrical energy when it is most needed. Although very large, the RHPP Okutataragi, which is located in Asago, Hyogo Prefecture, is surrounded by nature, rivers and greenery. Serbia needs that kind of a principle of the operations of a RHPP, and the experiences of Japan will be very useful.
– The project of the RHPP Bistrica is a strategic one for EPS and that is one of the most important investments. The importance of this RHPP is in its energy storage capacity, and the future RHPP Bistrica, with the planned power of 656 MW, would be ideal for the “covering” of the oscillations in RES – Zivkovic said.
Ahead of the visit to the RHPP Okutataragi, Zivkovic attended the meeting of Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic, the minister of mining and energy of Serbia, with representatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The Japanese officials expressed their readiness and will to support the project of the construction of the RHPP Bistrica.
