The Ministry of Environmental Protection has approved the environmental impact assessment study of the project of the revitalization, modernization, increase of the power and degree of usefulness of the production generators HPP Djerdap 2, which Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) submitted last year.

The HPP Djerdap 2 plays a considerable role in the production of electrical energy in Serbia, with a total installed power of 270 MW, and with its annual production, it is a significant capacity of EPS. After it is reconstructed and the flow increases, the average annual production of electrical energy is expected to increase by 165.6 GWh to 171.8 GWh, that is, the planned works on the revitalization of the HPP Djerdap 2 would lead to an increase of 11.94% compared to the existing state.

EPS is obliged to commence the works within two years.

The planned dynamic of the execution of the works is such that the revitalization of the first six generators will last 18 months per generator, with an overlap of three months, whereas the revitalization of the remaining four generators will last 15 months per generator, also with an overlap of three months.

With this dynamic, the revitalization (with the stopping of the generator) would begin in January 2025, and it would be completed (all ten generators at the facility) in September 2037.

Let us remind that, back in 2017, it was announced that, in the next 10 years, EPS would overhaul all the generators.

The preliminary design was prepared by Energoprojekt – Hidroinzenjering a.d. in December 2021 and, based on that project, the description of the project in the Environmental Impact Assessment Study was prepared.
