In 2021, the PE Roads of Serbia commenced the activities toward the realization of the project of the construction of a fast route in the territory of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, from the border crossing with Hungary (Backi Breg) to the border crossing with Romania (Nakovo).

Within the second phase, in the territory of the City of Sombor, the company planned the preparation of the technical documentation for the section from the crossing with the IB-grade state road 12 to Subotica, at the exit from Sombor, to the administrative border of the Municipality of Kula. The total length of this section is 18.123 km. To this end, and with the aim of providing the legal framework for the preparation of the technical documentation, for said section, the PE Roads of Serbia commenced a simultaneous preparation of the urban project, whose designer is the PUE Prostor from Sombor.

The Spatial Plan of the City of Sombor plans bypass routes around the city and the settlement of Kljajicevo. The designated route of the fast route has unified the northern part of the planned bypass route around Sombor with the bypass route around Kljajicevo.

The section is an integral part of the traffic route that connects Hungary, from the border crossing (Backi Breg), through Sombor, Kila, Vrbas, Srbobran, Becej and Kikinda, with Romania (near Nakovo), so thanks to the route which goes across Vojvodina, it practically connects all the road routes in the Province.

Within the preparation of the urban project for the construction of IB-grade state road in the territory of the City of Sombor-section: from the crossing with the existing IB-grade road no. 12 near Sombor to the administrative border with the municipality of Kula near Kljajicevo, the company MHM-projekt from Novi Sad was hired to research and define the route of the fast road and it prepared the project technical documentation which is an integral part of the urban project.

The route of the fast road goes across the planes and, in both the horizontal and vertical senses, has very favorable and mild elements, whereby it is harmonized with the surrounding terrain. The fast route is characterized by extended horizontal and vertical elements.

The fast route is planned for vehicle speeds of up to 100 km/h.

Said section begins at km 22+725 and is a continuation of the route regulated by the previously prepared urban project, which begins right after Serbia’s border crossing with Hungary. There are no planned level crossings on this section. Instead, all the crossings with the existing roads are planned as deleveled.

On the planned fast route, the design features a total of 27 road structures, of which 12 culverts, 6 overpasses, 7 bridges and 2 underpasses.

Along the route, for both driving lanes of the fast route, niches for a temporary stopping of vehicles in emergency cases are planned in 19 locations, as are gaps in the median strip, for the realization of connections between both driving lanes in 10 locations in case one of the lanes is closed, whereby the traffic flows are redirected to the other one.

The most favorable location for rest, in line with the features along the route and the planned structures, can be planned between the Kljajicevo interchange and the Sivac settlement, where the Municipality of Kula begins (from km 35 to km 40).

Of the 6 planned overpasses, five connect farm roads and service roads, and one is part of the Kljajicevo interchange.

For the purposes of the construction of the fast route and the overpass above it (in order to establish communications cut due to the construction of the traffic route), land is planned to be expropriated into public property and public land is to be administratively transferred.

The urban project will be on a public presentation until December 16.
