– In late 2019, we started employing and training our first workers. Plenty of measures needed to be taken in order to facilitate the training in Germany. Parallel with the training, we established a good cooperation with the aviation academy and from this year we have a well-trained team. Last summer, we were standing here in a tent in the field, and a state-of-the-art factory was built in 11 months – said the CEO of MTU Maintenance Serbia, Rainer Becker.
Anke Konrad, the ambassador of Germany, pointed out that the German-Serbian cooperation was very varied, that there was also cooperation with school institutions and that “German investments are not just a statistic”.
– Today, we can witness the results of the hard work of a dedicated team – said Michael Schreyoegg, the CPO of MTU Aero Engines, and added:
– When we started this journey, about four years ago, I was convinced even back then that we will find a perfect place which will suit all our wishes. Here in Nova Pazova, we found a location which meets all our logistics demands. In less than 19 months, we arranged all the required agreements and started building. We are currently convinced that the market suits all our demands.
He also pointed out that the factory offered flexibility and that they were oriented toward a sustainable air industry in the future.
– Additional maintenance, repair and overhaul capacities in Serbia will improve our strong and flexible network and increase our ability to offer concrete services in the global market. Just like with the rest of our facilities, the clients can count on a constantly high quality and reliability that we offer – said Schreyoegg, according to the company’s press release.
The president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, said that the idea had been born six years before and that the state had invested EUR 14.6 million.
– Florian Hahn used his reputation and talked to people from MTU and mentioned Serbia as a potential destination. Three years later, the investment started. Also, without dual education, we would not have many companies which are here today. People are our advantage – Vucic said.
He also pointed out that “these people have a guaranteed market for the next 60 years”.
As announced, the number of the members of the team will grow in the coming years, and an increase of the number of employees to over 400 is planned at the moment.
– In order to prepare the employees as well as possible, the company MTU, together with the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Serbia, has strengthened the capacities of the Aviation Academy in Belgrade in order to make it a leading training center when it comes to aviation professions. The first specialists of MTU Maintenance Serbia have already completed the training. What’s more, they are currently undergoing intensive workplace training in the locations of MTU in Germany and Poland – the press release points out.
MTU plans to start working in the new location in December 2022, only 17 months after the beginning of the construction.
Let us remind that, on July 5, 2021, the construction of the facility in Nova Pazova, with an area of 39,000 m2, began. The investment, as the media reported, is worth EUR 100 million.
