Getting ready for "low-cost" companies - security tax lowered, reconstruction of Airport "Nikola Tesla" resumed
- The security tax at Airport "Nikola Tesla" will be lowered by 25% on December 15th, that is, from current 4.5 EUR to 3.3 EUR - Velimir Radosavljević, the Deputy Director General of that company, announced yesterday (December 10, 2009). In that way, total airport tax will be lowered from 21 EUR to 19.8 EUR, while the tax for the flights from Terminal 1 will amount to 15.3 EUR.
According to Radosavljević, Airport has invested 4.5m EUR in the improvement of safety over the last 15 months by procuring, among the rest, one mobile and two large X-ray machines, so that the security tax of 4.5 EUR is not needed any more.
While touring the works on refurbishment and linking of platforms A and C at the airport, Radosavljević pointed out that the value of the project whose realization had been entrusted to company "Planum" amounted to 55m EUR, exclusive of VAT, and that the works had been financed from the Airport's incomes. Construction works will be continued in 2010 when 1 km of the runway will be refurbished and reconstructed.
The Airport has also purchased two buses for transportation of passengers from the airplane to the passport check point, which was one of the main requests of low-cost companies since they do not want to use the air bridge because of the high costs. Therefore, as Radosavljević announced, the airport will buy another two such buses in 2010.
The Minister of Economy, Mlađan Dinkić, announced that the negotiations with low-cost companies on introduction of flights from Belgrade would start soon. He pointed out that the aim was that Belgrade became one of the regional centers of weekend tourism for the citizens of Europe, just like Prague or Budapest, which was the reason why the arrival of large number of low-cost airliners was very important.
