"Pompea" earned 40m EUR in Serbia last year – Italians plan to have new factory and warehouse for Russian market built in Zrenjanin
Italian textile giant "Pompea" has reduced its production capacities and closed some factories in Italy and other European countries, as well as in North Africa, because of the global economic crisis. As far as Serbia is concerned, the crisis still has no effect on the production units in Brus and Zrenjanin.
“Pompea” has about 700 workers in these two cities. The first foreign investor in the first Zrenjanin’s industrial zone "Bagljaš" was "Pompea", back in 2006. The company had the factory of socks built in that zone, and it now operates successfully for three consecutive years. Production capacities are used to the maximum, 200 employees work in three shifts, and monthly production amounts to 4m pairs of socks.
- We are satisfied with the operations in Serbia. We have qualified manpower and enviable productivity – says Klaudio Klavdio, the Production Manager in the Zrenjanin-based unit of "Pompea". – The factory in Zrenjanin produced about 50m pairs of socks worth over 40m EUR in 2008. Major share of production was exported to the market of Russian Federation where "Pompea" products are sold under trademark "glamour".
Luigi Predevali, the President of “Pompea” group, was recently staying in the city on the Begej where he spoke to the representatives of the local self-government about development plans in Serbia, especially in Zrenjanin.
"Pompea" expressed the wish earlier to expand the capacities and have another unit built in Zrenjanin. The company intends to expand logistic capacities, as well as to have the central warehouse for Russian market built in that city. The aim is that "Pompea" starts production of underwear, and that the city on the Begej becomes the most important logistic center of "Pompea" in east Europe.
