The Bubanj Potok section of the bypass around Belgrade to be completed by June - The Pančevo section in the works

In June, the bypass around Belgrade, specifically, its section leading to Bubanj Potok, will be completed, said the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Goran Vesic.

He told Radio-Television of Serbia that once the bypass to Bubanj Potok is complete, Gazela bridge and downtown Belgrade will see decrease in traffic, because those passing through Belgrade will have access to the bypass in its full profile.

He added that planning has begun for the bypass completion, i.e. the 31-kilometer road leading from Bubanj Potok to Pancevo, a highly demanding section that will include two tunnels, the Boleč interchange and a large road-rail bridge over the Danube with a length of 1,807 meters.

- It will be a railway and road bypass at the same time. This will complete the entire bypass around Belgrade. Whoever arrives from the direction of Banat, Pančevo, Vrsac or Zrenjanin will not have to enter the city center, but will be able to reach Bubanj Potok via the ring road - explained Vesic.

Vesic said that in the upcoming months, the roundabout in Novi Beograd will be expanded, because the existing two lanes are no longer sufficient, and in about a month, the construction of the Jakovo interchange will start.

He said that by 2025, the high-speed railway from Belgrade to Budapest via Novi Sad and Subotica will be completed, and in four years it will be expanded to Niš, decreasing the travel time to 100 minutes.

- We still have to wrap up the negotiations for the last section of the railway - 88 kilometers to Presevo. This means that we will have almost 500 kilometers of high-speed railway from north to south. This is something that Serbia has never had - said Vesic.

Vesic announced that, starting this summer, it will be possible to pass through North Macedonia with a Serbian tag attached to the payment card.

- We are also negotiating with Croatia and Greece, and Albania will also be included. We will provide additional comfort to people traveling - said Vesić.
