With perfectly integrated transport networks and innovative load carriers, ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) brings Europe and Asia even closer together – and ensures that goods reach their destination safely and on time. Serbia plays a key role when it comes to connecting economies, which is why RCG is represented there with its own carrier company Rail Cargo Carrier - Serbia since 2023.

As a leading rail logistics provider in Europe, ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) shapes the transport industry in Europe and beyond to Asia. Thanks to its presence in 18 countries and the know-how of 5,912 logistics professionals, customers benefit from decades of experience and a reliable hands-on mentality that ensures that more than 1,100 trains reach their destination safe and sound every day. Through efficient end-to-end logistics solutions, RCG moves more than 78 million net tonnes of freight each year..

Connecting economies

RCG operates in 14 European countries with its own traction, i.e. it handles transport operations with its own staff and locomotives. The logistics hub Serbia joined the own-traction network of RCG in 2023. As a transit country, it plays a key role in connecting Western Balkans, Turkey and Greece to the ports of Hamburg and Rotterdam as well as to Central European economies. In recent years, the country has taken important steps to rebuild the railway and to modernise and improve the railway infrastructure..

There were many reasons for RCG to establish a new carrier company – Rail Cargo Carrier - Serbia – with its head office in Belgrade 2023: not only does it benefit customers, but also the Serbian economy in the long term. With its own local carrier company, RCG offers outstanding international production for all kinds of goods and strengthens industrial locations in Serbia. Thanks to RCG’s international and comprehensive network TransNET, Europe’s second largest rail logistics provider connects European major hubs and ports with economic centres in South-Eastern Europe and China. In the second half of 2024, RCG will also have its own logistics company located in Belgrade.

Expanded network

Own traction brings flexibility for customers and enables even faster, more efficient and more competitive transport services to Turkey and Greece in own production. This enables RCG to offer fast, efficient, and customer-oriented Turkey transports to Central Europe from a single source – whether for block trains, single wagons or intermodal transports. At the same time, RCG creates fast and cross-border traction in high quality and at competitive prices with its comprehensive production network – in an eco- friendly manner.
