Young startups present farming innovations in Berlin – MapMyApple app ideal for small producers
Seeking to meet the needs of exhibitors and visitors, the Fruit Logistica fair introduced the Start Up Day this year, where 19 young companies had an opportunity to present innovations in agriculture.
Exhibitors from Serbia, as well as from the region and Europe, which are in the apple production business, had an opportunity to talk to representatives of the MapMyApple app and learn how they can use the app to increase their yields and get better prices.
The general manager of the Select Fruit Group, Darko Martinovic, believes that small apple producers need such an app in order to avoid keeping a physical register of works and increase efficiency.
Furthermore, this “pocket agronomist” is very affordable and easy to use, making it a good choice for older users as well, whereas younger ones are sure to be the leaders in the usage of these modern technologies.
Developed in cooperation with apple production experts, MapMyApple offers daily recommendations regarding fertilization, irrigation, protection and other works. By implementing high-resolution satellite images, it also offers visual information about the state of the vegetation and a precise weather forecast.
The app has been tested in fields in Serbia and Macedonia, and after the successful negotiations with apple producers at the fair, who said that they had never seen anything like it in Europe, the app is sure to be used in Italy, France, Hungary and Poland as well by the end of the year.
