Three Serbian startups at Berlin contest on March 7

An algorithm for calculating mutual debts between companies and applications for a quicker and easier interior design and helping people who have lost the power of speech are the three startups which will represent Serbia at the Berlin contest on March 7, as reported by KPMG.

The BreakAphasia app was developed by a Belgrade team headed by Uros Mitic when his father lost the power of speech due to a stroke. Around 4,000 people in Serbia a year get this condition, called aphasia, which also causes memory and concentration problems, which is why patients often end up as social cases.

The app consists of a range of exercises, to be performed with the supervision and consultancy of speech therapists, which enables a large number of people to get the needed treatment. It is the first such app in the region to be dealing with this problem, and its implementation can be enhanced with minimal changes.

The Circle Money project is a platform by a Serbian-Croatian team aiming to solve mutual debts between companies. The sophisticated algorithm analyzes debts of several companies and finds a solution for multiple compensations, allowing the users to resolve the problem of debt.

– The main goal of multilateral compensation is to reduce the amount of debt between legal entities in the local and the international market – says team member Dragan Milovanovic.

He adds that debts were not just characteristic of Serbia and the region, but that, in late 2016, the European Commission had pointed to the seriousness of mutual debts between companies from EU members and the need to have court disputes in that area solved quickly, as they're jeopardizing the operations of small and medium enterprises.

A Nis-based team headed by Petar Pejic will present a mobile app called Future Reality Systems in Berlin. The app aims to facilitate and speed up interior design and is primarily meant for architects, though laymen will also be able to use it. The software features an artificial “architectural brain”, which will allow for a simple interior design without having previous knowledge in the field.

These three startups won at the Belgrade Connect contest organized by KPMG in cooperation with the Rotary Club Beograd Metropolitan. Their innovations will be presented before famous world investors at the Berlin Startup Connect Conference, and, after they return from Germany, they will be able to work with experts from KMPG Serbia as their mentors.
