Stage in front of Bitef theater, green market in Kralja Petra Street and oasis of nature near Stara Herzegovina tavern - Regeneration of three squares in Belgrade kicks off summer 2013
(the square near famous tavern Stara Hercegovina)
The square near Bitef theater will get a wall covered by climbing plants and a performance stage, the square in front of the Mihailo Petrovic Alas Primary School in Kralja Petra Street will feature stairs for those who want to take a break and rest, whereas the space in front of the Stara Herzegovina tavern will be turned into an oasis of nature in the city center.
A competition for the regeneration of these three squares in Stari Grad, announced by this Belgrade borough, has attracted a total of 78 entries, and an expert jury selected aforementioned three projects on April 9th.
- Regeneration of these squares in Belgrade may commence this summer, in the period between June and August. The plan is to have at least one location regenerated by the end of 2013 - Stari Grad borough officials say to eKapija.
Authors of the preliminary design for Mire Trailovic Square (near Bitef theater) are Dejan Milanovic, Dusan Cvetkovic, Petar Opacic, Nikola Milanovic and Hristina Stojanovic (r:e:a:c:t studio), while a team consisting of Pavle Stamenovic (Stamenovic think:tank), Dusan Stosic, Zarko Uzelac, Hristina Tosic and Ana Sulkic is credited with developing the other two solutions.
The 0.176 ha area near Stara Herzegovina tavern, at the corner of streets Venizeloseve and Vojvode Dobrnjca, is conceived as a space where people can take a break and have a rest. Existing deciduous plants will remain in that location, and the plan is also to pave this square and set up sculptures and monuments later.
Mire Trailovic Square, which will become one of the liveliest places in the city after the reconstruction, is spanning about 0.12 hectares. Once the regeneration of Bajlonijeva Market is completed, these two areas should constitute a functional whole.
This square will be reconstructed to serve as an open-air stage for artistic, theatrical and music performances that don't necessarily have something to do with the activities of Bitef theater itself. According to the selected design, this area will be covered with a variety of climbing plants.
The square at the corner of streets Kralja Petra and Gospodar Jovanova, in the vicinity of the Mihailo Petrovic Alas School, a small green market, is conceived in line with the needs of students and children in that area. Aforementioned stairs where people can take a break and socialize are primarily intended for them.
Jury members were architects Zoran Lazovic, Kosta Andric, Marko Bastac and landscape architects Aleksandra Tilinger and Aleksandar Bobic.
