Four anchors for new marina in Belgrade - Surcin gets multifunctional tourist complex worth €4.5 million

Lovers of boats, navigation and water sports will soon be able anchor their vessel and have a rest some 13 kilometers away from the confluence of the rivers Sava and Danube in Belgrade, on the left side of the Sava river.

At the initiative of the Belgrade Chamber of Commerce and the borough of Surcin, construction of a mini river marina should commence in 2012, in a location six kilometers away from Surcin and one kilometer downstream from the Ostruznica Bridge.

The new center of nautical tourism in Belgrade is an expression of the endeavor of local authorities to supplement the borough's tourist offer by having such facility built on the river banks in Surcin.

Aside from being a shelter for ships and boats, this marina will also be an ideal place for recreation since it will comprise a number of sports courts and swimming pools.

New nautical center

A preliminary design with a feasibility study for the future complex spanning about three hectares on the river bank in Surcin is a work by architect Dejan Stanojevic and the company DAAM Studio.

Stanojevic says for eKapija that, according to the Regulations on Standardization of the Marina, the future facility will meet all standards and quality requirements to obtain the highest sign - four anchors.

Relaxing shelter

A series of accompanying facilities will make the overall impression of the marina complete. It has a potential to become a real paradise for all those who want to use their time on the bank of the Sava river for relaxation and recreation. There will also be a parking lot for about 70 vehicles, as well as special trails for cyclists and pedestrians from the direction of New Belgrade.

Visitors will also be able to spend more than few hours in this location thanks to a mini hotel with 16 rooms, of which construction is in the pipeline as well.

A restaurant with an open-air section for 400 lovers of good cuisine will be built in the vicinity of the hotel.

One tennis court, one volleyball court and two beach volleyball courts will provide an opportunity for a good practice, while those who want to spend their time walking through the nature, riding a bicycle or swimming will be able to choose between a number of walking and bicycle trails and outdoor swimming pools.

First guests in 2014

Stanojevic explains that the whole project will be implemented in stages, and that their development will depend on the system and how quickly the necessary funds are provided.

- The first phase of the construction will make the marina ready for undisturbed operations and core activities. The next phase will include the construction of an annex to the pier, roads and the restaurant, whereas the last phase will see the construction of a hotel, sports courts and other accompanying facilities.

Each stage of construction will cost about EUR 1.5 million, and the value of the entire investment is estimated at EUR 4.5 million. The Belgrade Chamber of Commerce and the borough of Surcin have already applied for a grant from the EU's programs Adriatic Ipa and Cluster Club.

If everything goes as planned, the construction works will kick off in 2012, and the first vessels and tourists in the marina are expected as early as in 2014.
