Construction of aqua-park started in Kanjiža - Hungarian company to invest 5m EUR

The foundation stone for future aqua-park was laid yesterday (October 19, 2009) in Kanjiža by Mayor Mihalj Njilaš and the CEO and the majority owner of stock company "Millers" from Budapest, Isztvan Balaszdi Sabo. The municipality of Kanjiža has provided the land for the aqua-park, in the construction of which the company from Hungary will invest about 5m EUR. According to the announcements, construction of the first phase of aqua-park at the surface of 2.8 ha should be finished before the summer season 2011. In addition to the swimming pool complex with toboggans and other recreational contents, it will also comprise accompanying catering and trade outlets, which should contribute to improvement and development of tourism.

It has been pointed out that the unexploited tourist potentials represent an obstacle to development of other economic branches in this region. Construction of the aqua-park is the first phase of development of a sports-recreation center on the banks of the Tisa river, which will create conditions for employment of new people. The aqua-park is planned to have 10 to 12 swimming pools with toboggans and various contents for rest and relaxation, a 33-meter swimming pool that will be suitable for organization of various contests, as well as capacities for sport and recreation.

Daily capacity of the aqua-park is between 1,500 and 2,000 visitors, and Hungarian stock company "Millers" has promised to have the aqua-park complex built according to international and European standards, with special focus on safety standards.

- This is a historical moment because the great dreams of the citizens of Kanjiža are being fulfilled, after the "Kanjiža Spa" complex was built in the 1980's - says Mihalj Njilaš.
