Citizens from a large part of Serbia have been unable to get any procedures related to the land registry done for a month now due to the workers’ strike at the Republic Geodetic Authority, B92 reports.

As per the decision of the RGA, the cadaster municipalities in which the strike is in effect have been removed from the central electronic system, making any kind of registration of facilities and ownership of real estate impossible.

Half of Serbia, around 90 cadaster units, has been blocked this way for over a month. Of the major cities and towns, the strike is in effect in Nis, Novi Sad, Subotica, Pancevo, Zrenjanin, Kragujevac, Kraljevo, Krusevac, Leskovac, Sombor, Bor…

The strikers, representatives of trade unions, have two main requests, which pertain to the poor material standing of the employees. According to Nebojsa Pejcinovic, the secretary executive of the Nezavisnost trade union, clerks’ net salaries were RSD 46,000 in 2014 and have since dropped drastically due to a new manner of calculation. Clerks with a secondary education are now paid around RSD 40,000.

The trade unions require the salaries from October 2015 to be increased by the amount of the previous increase of 5% and to implement the announced raise of 7% from the date of January 1, 2019, in line with the government’s decisions, as well as the raise based on the service accumulated since October 2015.

The meeting between the RGA trade unions and Minister Zoran Djordjevic, held on January 10, failed to produce results.

The management of the RGA has notified the employees of the content of these talks in an open letter. Furthermore, the text of the Agreement on the Ending of the Strike has been published on the institution’s website. Under the agreement, the employees would have their salaries raised by 7%.
