Ruins to be replaced with 120-meter tower - Plaza Centers one step away from building permit for complex in Kneza Milosa Street in Belgrade

(preliminary design of the hotel in Kneza Milosa Street)

The ruined building of the former Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs may soon get a new look given that the Comprehensive Land-Use Plan for that block in Kneza Milosa Street will shortly be considered for adoption. Since few days ago, a draft of aforementioned plan is on public display and public insight into it will be possible until March 21st, after which all objections to the allowed construction of 120-meter skyscraper will be discussed at a public discussion.

Although the Comprehensive Land-Use Plan covers the entire block bounded by streets Kneza Milosa, Drinska, Sarajevska and Durmitorska, which also entails a permit for the construction of the superstructure of buildings, the biggest changes are made to the corner that is closest to the Mostarska Interchange.

The building of former Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs, which is now in the possession of the Israeli company Plaza Centers, will have to keep the current shape - a broad base with the body of the building completed with an attic. Open space will house a shopping center, stores or offices, which will have exit to the roof covered in greenery.

Starting from the base, the body of the new building will rise to a maximum height of 120.1 meters. Floors may feature hotel rooms, as the Israeli investor announced, or offices with residential suites, while the attic is reserved for technical base.

If the Plan is adopted, Plaza Centers will finally be able to get necessary permits on April 7th, after waiting for them since 2007, when they bought the building for EUR 29 million.

Wider streets, ruins to be removed

In order to avoid the announced collapse in Kneza Milosa Street as a result of the construction of shopping center in the location of the building of former Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs, the plan is to widen Drinska Street and build access lanes from Sarajevska Street, near Drinska bus stop. This also calls for the removal of ruined and low facilities in the surroundings. The plan is also to have Kneza Milosa Street reconstructed.
