Nikola Maksimcuk, Head of Sales at Telemax – Our Cities Are Also Becoming Smart with the Help of the City Gecko Brand

Telemax d.o.o. Banja Luka has been successfully operating in weak and strong current electrical installations for twenty years now. They have expanded their business to solar power plants, and they offer to their clients a service under a turnkey system, from designing, through installation, to connecting to the network and commissioning.

Nikola Maksimcuk, Head of Sales at Telemax, reveals other ways to reduce the consumption of energy. We also talked to him about the street furniture brand City Gecko, of which he is a co-founder. These are solar benches and solar bus stops which turn solar energy into electrical energy and which are already winning over users throughout the region and the world.

How important is environmental protection for Telemax? In what way does Telemax implement environmental principles in its operations?

– Telemax d.o.o. Banja Luka has been successfully operating in weak and strong current electrical installations for twenty years now. Since we are constantly observing the market, we are adapting to it, implementing new services and technologies. As a family company which is employing the second generation of founders within its activities, we are aware of the importance of environmental protection and giving our planet to younger generations to use. With our operations, we try not to pollute the environment, using materials and technologies which don’t contribute to it, and for our clients and purchasers, we create the services and solutions which will contribute to the preservation of the environment.

You design and install certified LED lighting systems for professional use. How much electrical energy can companies save by implementing LED lighting?

– As the biggest resource of today, energy has a major impact on companies’ operations. By reducing the consumption of energy, in addition to lowering the company’s costs, we have a direct impact on the environment. One of the services we offer to our clients is the designing and installation of certified LED lighting systems, which, as I’ve mentioned, has a positive impact on business operations. By installing such systems, companies, depending on their activities, realize considerable savings. Said systems require initial investments, but those can pay off in two to three years in some cases, through saving on the energy consumed.

Why have you decided to expand your business to solar power plants?

– With our services and solutions, we want to facilitate operations for our clients and help them grow and develop, and designing and installing solar power plants enables us to do so. In addition to the reduction of harmful gas emissions, great savings on electrical energy are realized. We have the knowledge and the expertise and we are extremely glad that the legal conditions for implementing this service have met. We offer this service to our clients under a turnkey system, form designing, through installation to connecting to the network and commissioning.

You have created the street furniture brand City Gecko, which includes smart benches and solar bus stops. What are the functions of the devices?

– Smart street furniture contains these products and, depending on the model and the equipment level, the products, that is, the solutions, offer the possibility of charging the devices we use every day, going online, measuring atmospheric parameters through sensors, advertising through promotional LCD displays and lighting solutions through ambient LED lighting. A solar bench and a solar bus stop turn clean solar energy into electrical energy, thereby enabling said services.

City Gecko solutions have so far been installed in eight countries (Austria, Croatia, Hungary, Slovenia, Switzerland, Serbia, BiH and UAE). What have the reactions of the users been?

– The reactions so far are great and they are the reason for our everyday efforts and work on the brand and the solutions themselves. Our recognizable modular design has found its place on the world scene and it is currently expanding to new world markets. We are proud that we are the only CE certified producer of this kind of solution in BiH and beyond. Furthermore, thanks to the quality of the brand, we have the opportunity to talk and negotiate with the biggest experts in digitization and smart cities and influence a better future together with them.

Are smart cities a near future in our areas as well?

– Although more slowly, our cities are also starting to implement smart city agendas and solutions. There are investments in the infrastructure and in educating the populace, which contributes to a faster development. There is a handful of excellent examples of smaller municipalities which have introduced and implemented digitization systems so as to facilitate their business and the everyday lives of their citizens, so I believe that this future is already here.

What are your further plans?

City Gecko is growing, the demand for our solutions is increasing, and the market itself dictates both the upgrading of the existing solutions and new solutions. We aim to expand the range of City Gecko solutions by the end of the year and to place them in both the local market and new foreign markets. Solar power plants, as the company’s new service, will, all things considered, require an expansion of the sector and the employment of new staff, which we are really looking forward to. At the moment, we are not planning to open new sectors, but if the market requires us to do so…
