ALEKSANDAR VLAHOVIĆ
Former Minister of Economy, Republic of Serbia
Mr. Aleksandar Vlahovic, has more than twenty years of experience in management consulting, financial advisory, privatization and valuation services in Central and Eastern Europe.
Mr. Vlahovic was appointed Minister of Economy and Privatization from 2001 - 2004. Under his guidance and supervision the activities of the Ministry were concentrated on structural adjustment reforms of the economy, which resulted in:
- Rapid privatization of more than 1,500 companies, with FDI inflow of over 2 billion euros,
- Attracting over 25 multi-national companies to conduct business in Serbia,
- Restructuring of large state and socially owned companies prior to privatization,
- Development of small and medium-sized enterprises to drive the economic growth,
- Capacity building of institutions, including strengthening the Ministry and developing new bodies (Privatization Agency, SME Agency, Share Fund, Guarantee Fund),
- Reduction of investment barriers through legislative reform. The Ministry developed cornerstone laws putting a modern legal framework for the Serbian economy. These laws include: Privatization Law, which incorporated social and corporate responsibility, Bankruptcy Law, Business Registry Law, and Company Law.
Today, he gives investment advice to private sector clients in business in Serbia. He is the Chief Financial Advisor of Meridian Bank. He is an active member of Parliament of the Republic of Serbia and a member of Committee on Development and International Economic Relations and Finance Committee.
Prior to 2001, Mr. Vlahovic had assumed following positions:
- 1997 – 2000, Office Managing Partner of Deloitte Touche Yugoslavia
- 1991 – 1997, Partner, Financial Advisory Services, Deloitte Touche Yugoslavia
- 1985 - 1991, Director of Management Consulting, Economic Institute Belgrade
Mr. Vlahovic is a member of many well known societies, including the Association of American Appraisers, International Association of Accountants, of the Association of Yugoslav Economists and the Association of Yugoslav Appraisers.
Mr. Vlahovic is married and has two sons.
