Vesic: Tender for Land Operator at Airport Soon

The Civil Aviation Directorate of the Republic of Serbia will soon open the tender for new land operators at the Nikola Tesla Airport.

The minister of construction, transport and infrastructure of Serbia, Goran Vesic, wrote this on his Instagram profile and pointed out that it would be done “in a summary procedure based on the order I have given, which Serbia has the right to according to the concession agreement with Vinci (VINCI Airports), so that it wouldn’t happen that flights are late and that there are big crowds because there are not enough workers in the baggage sorting area.”

– Each airline carrier chooses its own land operator, so I believe that competition would help Vinci be more successful and fix the errors which are a consequence of their belief that they are untouchable because they are monopolists – Vesic said.

He pointed out that “the state honors Vinci, as one of the biggest companies in the world, but Vinci has the obligation to have the airport services working flawlessly and to provide to the passengers who have paid for the tickets and their airport services to get what they have paid for.”

– The number of flights and passengers has increased considerably, which was expected, and they had to be ready for the summer season. Unfortunately, they were not and therefore, as a minister, I have been motivated to find a solution which will help protect the interests of the passengers as much as possible – Vesic said.

This year, the Belgrade Airport has had nearly 3.5 million passengers and it will have up to 7 million by the end of the year, which is an all-time high, he concluded.
