Serbia has heaven as well - Recently opened Sapat wine atelier at Novi Slankamen provides unique sense for soul, eyes and palate (PHOTO)
Heaven on the Earth. These are the only three words which I could use to describe the Sapat vinery in Novi Slankamen after returning to Belgrade. Peace, good wine, delicious food, hedonism. Silence wanted for a long time is interrupted only by a “whisper” of scissors cutting vine.
But, let us start from the beginning …
The Sapat wine atelier is located north of Belgrade, upstream the Danube where
the last hill of Fruska gora appears. Apart from plantations of vineyard and
top quality wine, a restaurant with luxurious accommodation capacities was
built in Slankamen, along with the vinery.
At the agreed time, a grey-haired owner of the vinery with moustaches, Miodrag M. Kostic and his daughter Tijana Crnobrnja who is the Executive Manager welcomed us.
They say their ancestors did not deal with wines and they did not discover the
wine growing secretes from family stories.
They have here 15 ha of land, 8 under vineyards. When they opted for the
location they had difficulties in purchasing lots. There used to be 45 lots
here. When they came, there was no electricity or road and today, everything is
settled.
Their objective is to create top quality wine and that is why they gathered experts for each segment of production, they provided the most modern technology but also kept certain traditional methods.
The vinery capacity is 100.000 bottles and their plans are to generate production of 80 out of maximal 90.000 bottles. Kostic sees Sapat as a place for enjoying, a place where family members and their friends will gather, diligent businessmen, good people first and after all. It would be as a place where you came deliberately to let yourself to more beautiful side of life.
Wines
When it comes to wines you can taste here, ou can try rose made of musket hamburg packed in standard bottles and the ones of 0,375 l.
You can taste chardonnay also packed in bottles of 0,75l and 0,375l, as well as
sauvignon blank, for which more competent than us say that “it has already
become serious market competition”.
Wine called “Our first wine” which charmed us with a beef steak, even us who enjoy white wines.
The last placed wine planned until the fall, when the Sapat Atelier expect new
labels, is made of three red kinds and has an interesting name – Pi together
with an interesting name as well.
Restaurants and suites
A nicely designed restaurant is next to the vinery, open for visitors Thursday
to Sunday.
We believe these people know their job. Still, they own Belgrade’s Townhouse 27. They transferred experience they have to ho the Sapat atelier. Townhouse 27 has been winning the Certificate of excellence - 5 circles for the third year in a row awarded by famous Tripadvisor.com portal.
Still, they do not want to create “a place for elite” because our host does not like that word.
We want to create a place for those who respect nature, environment and
everything we did. It is for those who truly enjoy wine, top food, atmosphere
filled with art and love.
"Imagine complete peace. Imagine silence where only the sounds of pleasant
wind and birds intertwine. Imagine sunrises and sunsets, wine pouring. Imagine
these are your senses, focused only on spledorous scents, tastes, colors.
Comfortable beds, sofas, glass wall of your room overlooking the space of the
vineyard and the Danube nearby …That kind of place exists".
