Water in Palic Lake not for humans nor for fish
According to the latest analysis of the Institute of Public Health in Subotica, water in Palic Lake is of bad quality and not safe for swimming.
In the tourist part of the lake, water is intensively green in colour, of low transparency and a high concentration of suspended solids, mineral and organic substances, extremely high ph value, high concentration of all forms of nitrogen and phosporus, and unbalanced and negative oxygen regime.
- Due to these parameters, quality of water in Palic Lake is not in accordance with values prescribed by Regulation on Water Classification for 2. and b class, which is proper for swimming – says the Institute of Public Health. Results of water analysis classifies it into fifth category and is not recommended to be used for any purpose.
Green colour comes from algae, whose concentration is significantly high – 22 million per liter, where 70% of them are phytoplanktons in the form of natural toxins.
In order to release the lake from toxic substances, there has commenced an activity of fish catching, especially silver carp. JP "Palic Ludas" prepared a space where the fish will be relocated.
When the water quality is satisfying, we will supply the lake with predatory fish in order to save money.
No investments
Bad quality of water in the lake is a big problem for Palic during a long period of time. Without clear water for swimming and other water sports there is no tourism development and no hope that foreign investors will invest in spa complex construction.
