New punto will not be produced in Serbia

Although we produced punto classic and we produce 500L, new generation of punto will be produced in Poland.

Upon presenting a five-year plan, Fiat announced that the punto successor will arrive to the market no sooner than in 2016 although current model, grande punto, had its premier in 2005. After a restyle, the car from 2009, first became punto evo so that in 2012. It kept only the primary mark – punto.

Officially, Fiat did not announce more details about the nw generation of this model. However, as Autonews Europe reports, based on the sources of the Italian producer, new punto should become a member of wider Fiat 500 family and to get the 500 Plus feature.

The car will be positioned between 500 and Kragujevac fiat 500L. Although current punto is produced in Italy, in Melfi plant and 500L in our country, Fiat, as it was announced, decided to produce new model in its Poland-based plant where fiat 500 is already produced.

The same source reveals that the company will pour some EUR 565 mil into development of the section in Polish town Tisi. With the relocation of the punto production from Italy to Poland, in the plant in Melfi, additional capacities for assembling cross over jeep renegade and its pair, fiat 500X, will be available.

According to the latest data JATO Dynamics reported , hesitation of Fiat which lasted for a couple of years with respect to offering a successor of fiat punto to the market contributed that only in 2013 sales of this car in Europe generated a fall of 22%.
