Serbian Trade and Telecommunications Minister Rasim Ljajic said that a tender for the sale of Telekom Srbija would not be announced until the Government was completely sure of its success because another unsuccessful attempt would have unforeseeable adverse economic effects on that telecom firm.

The minister assessed that the value of Telekom Srbija was not decreasing because a portion of the company's profit was going to the budget instead of being invested, but because it was experiencing all the problems faced by all telecom operators in the region.

He reminded that the interest in Telekom Srbija had been expressed by various investment funds and telecom firms even in the previous mandate of the Serbian government.

Ljajic also announced that the first moves of his ministry would be to promulgate the Law on Electronic Communications, the Law on the Protection of Consumers, and the Law on Commodity Reserves, all that by the end of June, adding that the most important task was to finish the process of digitization by June 2015, as well as to pursue further market liberalization and resume negotiations on the conclusion of bilateral free trade agreements.
