Electricity market in Serbia to start by the end of 2014
The end of the year in Serbia should see the electricity market opening but electricity prices should not be expected to fall automatically, it was said at the electricity market conference.
By the end of the year, Elektromreza Srbije (EMS) should open the electricity market in cooperation with the French Epex spot, the assistant minister of energy, Dejan Trifunovic, said at the meeting organized by the Balkanmagazin Internet magazine.
The electricity market in Serbia is expected to develop trade but automatic electricity prices fall should not be expected, Ljiljana Hadzibabic, member of the Council of the Agency for energy of Serbia, estimated.
She added the electricity prices will depend on different parameters and terms which will be at the market after the announced legislation adoption.
Speaking about the importance of the market for electricity market development, Marko Cokorilo from EFT said that the market guarantees transparency and clear picture of the market and that the price which is reached there can help investors in making decisions on construction of production or transfer capacities.
- In continental Europe, during the previous years, markets have become very active in assigning cross-border capacities on daily level through the “market merge” method. Now, four national markets function – in Hungary, Romania, Slovenia and Greece – Cokorilo said.
Making comments on initiating the Serbian electricity market, the representative of EFT pointed out that the success of every market depends on electricity quantities sold.
