Works on railway bridge at Cuprija start – Work totals EUR 2,5 mil to end in September
Smederevska Palanka-based Gosa FOM and Belgrade-based Mostogradnja started works on the railway bridge at the Velika Morava at Cuprija.
The bridge at the Gilje-Cuprija-Paracin of the international railroad at the Corridor 10, between Belgrade and Nis, was firstly built by the Austrian-Slovenian consortium, Alpine-Meteorit. The works should have been completed August 3, 2012 and then it was extended for February 2013 but then the consortium went bankrupt.
The agreement on continuing bridge construction has been signed April 3rd this year by the General Manager of the Zeleznice Srbije, Dragoljub Simonovic, General Manager at Gose FOM Srdjan Dimitrijvic and the General Manager of Mostogradnja, Branko Knezevic.
The works total EUR 2,5 mil and, according to the contract, the works should end in September.
- For the first time after couple of decades, local contractors won the works at the railroad. Some 20 workers are on site and before them, experts of these companies carried out inspection and defined what it is necessary to be done - Zeljko P. Markovic, a responsible contractor of the works on Gilje-Cuprija-Paracin railroad, said for Tanjug.
The Italian consortium, Armatori Feroviari is building the two-rail railroad, Gilje-Cuprija-Paracin, which crosses the bridge. The works should end by June 30.
- All concrete pillars contained in the project are completed and nearly 11.000 tons of concrete were installed-the engineer in charge of expert supervision of bridge construction, Nikola Stefanovic, previously said for Tanjug.
The European Investment Bank is funding the bridge construction.
According to the project, the bridge is made of steel, 2.400 tons of weight, 322,5 meters long in five dimensions from 52,5 to 83,5 meters length. It will be held by six pillars, two of them river ones.
