World’s fastest palletizing robot - Four-axis robot ideal for integration into existing packing lines

Installation of the line for automatic packaging, stacking and stretch wrapping of powder products at company Sika in Simanovci is currently at its final stage. Equipment supplier is Iva procesna oprema, a company from Arandjelovac, which has been using ABB robots IRB 460 for its automatic packaging and stacking lines for a few years back. This is Iva’s third installation of this type that is using ABB’s industrial robot IRB 460 for palletizing application, ABB said in a release.

Iva procesna oprema is successfully engaged in designing, production, installation and commissioning of process equipment: devices, machines, and production and packaging lines. They established successful cooperation with ABB in Serbia in late 2011, when they made their first order of industrial robot IRB 460. The positive experience during integration process and satisfaction with performance of the robot resulted in continuation of successful cooperation between two companies and made Iva procesna oprema a specialist in integration of ABB’s industrial robots.

When the companies started their cooperation Iva procesna oprema was certified for ABB robot programming through our training process. Thanks to this training and comprehensive technical support from ABB in Serbia, Iva Procesna oprema was able to effortlessly work in the area of ABB’s robotics. ABB’s industrial robot IRB 460 is a very compact robot with small footprint, capable of palletizing 1200 bags per hour, its payload capacity is 110 kg and reach is 2.4 meters.

- Repeatability of programmed position is 0.2 mm. This is probably the fastest palletizing robot in its class - said Branislav Mrgud, ABB’s sales engineer in charge of robotics.

ABB’s patented motion control software QuickMove™ and TrueMove™ ensures palletizing is carried out with extremely smooth movements at high speed, thus enabling packaging of even the most sensitive products without any fear of damage. Robot’s cabling is integrated into its highly rigid body, which extends the MTBF (mean time between failures) of the robot system.

ABB’s “RobotStudio” software enables extremely realistic offline programming. ABB also developed specific software package for palletizing applications called “Palletizing PowerPack”. This PowerPac reduces programming time by up to 80%. Such software packages, have also been developed for the most typical robot applications (welding, painting, cutting, servicing of machinery, etc.), they give user possibility to easily program ABB’s robots without being familiar with the Rapid robot programming language.
