Agrana wants to invest in starch production and fruit growing - Serbia still negotiates with Austrian company
Austrian food company Agrana is interested in investing in Serbia, in the starch industry and fruit growing, Serbian Agriculture Minister Dragan Glamocic said today.
He told the press that he had talked with the representatives of Agrana during his visit to Vienna in December 2013, adding that the negotiations on investment in starch production were in the final phase.
- This is very important for Serbia because our country is a large corn manufacturer, but we don't use that crop enough, and there are also two starch factories that operate below their full capacity. It is much better to export final products than corn. It is a shame that such a small country as Serbia is famous for corn exports - said the minister of agriculture.
Glamocic specified that Agrana was interested in investing in orchards, purchase of fruits and their placement in the global market, as well as fruit processing.
As Glamocic explained, Agrana supplies fruit yogurt manufacturers around the world with 33% of the fruits required.
The Serbian agriculture minister added that the Austrian company was also interested in investing in bioethanol production in Serbia.
By the way, eKapija wrote about Agrana's plans for Serbia earlier, but these announcements have not been concretized yet.
