Ajvar from Leskovac soon in Greek market
Leskovac's ajvar (red pepper spread), which became an official brand of Serbia three years ago, may soon conquer the market of Greece. Namely, at a recently finished international fair in the Greek town of Kavala, Greeks showed the greatest interest in importing ajvar from Leskovac.
Serbia does not have a sea coast like Greece, but those countries that have a seaside do not have a good ajvar.
Alexandros Vretos from Kavala, who studied and married in Belgrade nearly three decades ago, says that he is coming to aforementioned fair only to buy ajvar from Leskovac.
President of the Kavala Chamber of Commerce Angelos Tsatsouluis explains that there are 2,000 enterprises engaged in food imports in that region. He claims that they are interested in Serbian food and that they would definitely buy the brand from Leskovac.
The Regional Chamber of Commerce in Leskovac participated in the fair in Kavala for the sixth consecutive year. Goran Jovic, president of this chamber, says he expects Greek companies to come and do business in the future Green Zone in Leskovac.
The fair in Kavala gathered 150 exhibitors from Turkey, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Moldova, Serbia, Greece, and Cyprus.
