Government provides guarantee of EUR 26 mil for Zrenjanin-based Water Plant

Mayor of Zrenjanin, Ivan Bosnjak, has said today that with the republic budget revision, state guarantee for the construction of water plan in Zrenjanin, totaling EUR 26 mil, has been obtained, based on the contract signed last year with the Wassertechnik company (WTA).

In the fall, the final decision on destiny of that investment will be made at the meeting of the city assembly.

- Lately, different information on construction of water plant were published, for which finally, with the republic budget revision, guarantee was obtained. It was also published in the Official Gazette July 5 - Bosnjak said for Tanjug.

He mentions that state guarantee has been provided with the prolonged period which expires today and reminds that the first requirement for prolongation of deadlines during pilot facilities testing period was submitted by WTA.

During the work of pilot facilities, it was proved that potable water, according to local parameters and regulations, contains excessive presence of natrium and boron, he reminded.

- In order to implement the existing contract, it must be aligned with the Serbian legislation - Bosnjak claims, upon remarks that quantities of natrium and boron in line with the European standards.

- Whether and when the local legislation will be aligned with the European one is a matter of future but now the State auditing commission would not approve of the contract on construction of water plant if it is not complied with the local legislation. Therefore, governmental guarantee would not be valid - he said.

Sanitary inspection forbid more than nine years ago, usage of water from the central Zrenjnin-based water supply system for drinking and preparation of food due to huge quantities of arsenic and other hazardous substances.

In three decades, more than 10 pilot facilities have been tested in Zrenjanin. At one moment, there was a special company Factory of water in setting up process.

Contract between Public company Vodovod i kanalizacija and WTA was signed in April, 2012.
