The authorities of the Kursumlija municipality and the French city of Pierregitte agreed Tuesday to start cooperation in the fields of economy and sports.

Kursumlija Mayor Radoljub Vidic told Beta news agency that a protocol on the agreed cooperation would be signed in the autumn.

- I expect concrete talks about investments to follow the signing of this protocol on cooperation - said Vidic.

Pierregitte Assistant Mayor Guy Touvenelle said that the Frenchmen were very interested in establishing cooperation in tourism, investing in the wood processing industry, and initiating cooperation between the sports teams and youth clubs of the two towns.

- This area is abundant in forests, and we are very interested in cooperation in the wood-processing industry, where I see a great potential of the municipality of Kursumlija - he noted.

Pierregitte has a population of 100,000, and is situated in the vicinity of Paris. It is an industrial center of that part of France. Kursumlija is located in the south of Serbia, has about 20,000 citizens, and is one of the most underdeveloped municipalities in Serbia.
