EU funds construction of Waste Water Treatment Plant in Krusevac - Investment totaling EUR 23,8 mil
The European Union and the German Government will fund the construction of the Waste Water Treatment plant in Krusevac, a project worth EUR 23,8 mil, 95% of the amount being a donation, the Ministry of Energy, Development and Environmental Protection of Serbia has announced today.
- The terms to sign the contract totaling EUR 23,8 mil between the City of Krusevac, i.e. water supplying company and representatives of the German Development Bank (KfW) have been fullfilled - representative of the Ministry of the Environment, Zoran Lakicevic said after the meeting with the representatives of the City of Krusevac, EU Delegation and the German bank.
Lakicevic pointed out that two largest components would funded: the system of collectors and a sewerage network, 37 km long, adding that it is necessary to set aside some EUR 10 mill for it, and a waste water treatment facility totaling some EUR 13 mil.
- A total of 95 % of the sum is donation and the City is obliged to provide five percent of that value through a 15-year loan, an initial period of three years and a 2% interest rate – Lakicevic said.
He reminded that the project is a result of two contracts signed between Serbia and KfW for the waste water program and sewerage in Serbia, adding that the total amount agreed then were EUR 61 mil and that they were planned for Uzice and Vranje, apart from Krusevac.
According to him, it is an excellent example of funding projects related to waste water collection and treatment, adding that it is a unique example in the practice so far in Serbia.
Krusevac-based public utility company, Vodovod, according to director Slobodan Lazic, has been implementing activities for a year related to the future waste water treatment plant. In this period, the Feasability Study has been generated and accepted by the German Government. Tender released by Kfw for development of the main design is in progress.
Lazic said that the Waste water treatment plant is very important because fecal and atmosphere sewerage, which now flow in the Rasina and the Zapadna Morava raw, will be 95 % treated, which will significantly contribute to the environmental protection.
