NIS to build gas driven thermal – heating power plant in Pancevo - An investment of EUR 182 mil
Oil Industry of Serbia (NIS) will build gas driven thermal – heating power plant in Pancevo, for supplying its refinery and Petrohemija with electricity and heat, company officials said on May 21, in Pancevo.
The plant will have power of 200 megawatts, an investment totaling EUR 182 mil, and construction should be finish by mid 2016, Investment Director of the Refining Block in NIS, Nenad Pavlovic, said after a meeting with representatives of the local self-governance.
He added that the co generator will generate steam for the refinery and petrochemical operations, supply electricity to the network and will meet the needs of oil refinery & Petrohemija, electricity will be placed in the public electrical network and steam remains in the factory facilities.
- Environmental pollution will be reduced because natural gas instead of fuel oil which is now used by power plants in the refinery and Petrohemija will be used. The analysis that we do together with the local government will show whether gas power plant will produce thermal energy for residential heating in Pancevo- Pavlovic said.
According to the deputy mayor of Pancevo, Sasa Pavlov, "this is an important project for Pancevo because of the investment amount, opportunity to hire 40 to 60 new employees, stable electricity supply and pollution reduction”.
