EPS signs contract of EUR 14,38 EUR with Sweedish Sandvik
On May 10, the Electric Power Industry of Serbia (EPS) and the Mine Basin Kolubara signed with the Swedish Sandvik, a contract worth EUR 14.38 mil, within the Improvement of the Environment in Kolubara project.
The contract, the third within the project implies procurement of the stacker for the dredge-transporter - spreader on the surface mine Field Kolubara.
The total value of the environmental protection improvement projects totals EUR 181 mil.
Aleksandar Obradovic, EPS acting director at the managing director position reminded that the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) provided funding via its loan of EUR 80 mil, as well as the German Development Bank which (KfW) provided EUR 65 mill. A total of EUR 9 mil the Government of Germany grant while EPS provides EUR 27 miil.
The project includes implementation of quality management system coal and homogenization in western MB Kolubara, modernization of equipment by purchasing new -transporter - spreader system and energy supply systems for open pit Field C as well as purchase of stacker for interlayer barren soil at open pit mine Tamnava – Zapadno polje.
The director of Kolubara, Milorad Grecic, said that production in the basin, energy efficiency of thermal power plants (TPP Nikola Tesla and TPP Morava), stability of the entire EPS and environment will be developed.
Cumulative annual savings have been estimated at EUR 26 million while forecasted savings totals a million tons of coal annually.
Emissions of SO2, SO2, NO2 in power plants using coal from MB Kolubara will be reduced by about 3% per year compared to present, as well as the amount of ash and slag to 885,000 tons per year.
The implementation should last three and a half years. The fact that the Improvement of the Environment in Kolubara Mine Basin is Serbia’s candidate within the international RIO + 20 initiatives shows that the project is recognized worldwide.
Contracts, totaling EUR 60 million for the supply of dredge and conveyor belt have been signed with Krupp and Kopex.
