Fiat 500L exports to USA kick off
The first batch of 3,100 Fiat 500Ls from Europe's most modern factory in Kragujevac will be shipped today on a Grimaldi ship to the US port of Baltimore.
- We are completely ready for such delicate jobs as the export of vehicles to the USA. According to the plan, a ship loaded with Fiat 500Ls will set sail from the port of Bar to the port of Baltimore once a month - Deda Djelovic, director of the Luka Bar (Port of Bar)Department for Development and Technical and Operational Affairs, told Novosti.
According to him, about 1,500 vehicles are exported to Europe via the port of Bar every week with an average of two ships setting sail. Also, every week about ten trains loaded with FAS vehicles arrive from Kragujevac to the port of Bar. This is in line with the previously agreed dynamics of Fiat 500L exports via this corridor. According to the plan, the car factory in Kragujevac will this year export about 99 percent of the vehicles produced, so it is not a surprise that the European Commission believes that Serbia has exited recession thanks to Fiat 500L and that the vehicle made in Sumadija is the engine of our economy.
- The plan is to produce between 110,000 and 180,000 vehicles, but the exact number will depend on market demands - FAS CEO Antonio Cesare Ferrara said recently at Mount Kopaonik.
Due to an increased demand for 500L and the recently introduced third shift, Fiat automobili Srbija (FAS) has hired more than 500 workers in two months.
