Kuwaiti Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah has said that talks are underway to expand the cooperation with Serbia in the fields of agriculture, energy, tourism and healthcare.

- We believe we can do more. Serbia offers a lot of opportunities. Energy sector has become a major issue in our talks. Of course, we have priorities in our cooperation, which are investments, trade and tourism. Our military cooperation has been going on for as many as three decades, and now we negotiate the expansion of cooperation in the fields of agriculture, energy, tourism and health care - he told the Serbian national broadcasting corporation RTS.

Al-Sabah, the Kuwaiti foreign minister and the president of the Kuwaiti Fund for Arab Economic Development, believes that Kuwait and Serbia should increase their trade, which currently stands at only EUR 2.5 million a year.

RTS reports that after the United Arab Emirates announced new investments in Serbia, similar announcements are now coming from Kuwait. Kuwait has recently approved a EUR 25 million loan on favorable terms for the construction of Prokop railway station in Belgrade.

Construction companies from former Yugoslavia implemented some significant projects in Kuwait with one of them being a symbol of the City of Kuwait, water towers, which was built by Belgrade-based Ivan Milutinovic.

The people of Kuwait appreciate the support they received from Serbia during the Iraqi invasion, and Kuwait now continues the tradition of good relations with the country, Al-Sabah said.

Next month will be the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Serbia and Kuwait.
