Construction of world's largest solar power plant kicks off
The Masdar company, which is headquartered in Abu Dhabi, and its European partners Total and Abengoa Solar have announced the start of construction of the world's largest solar power plant Shams 1 in the eastern part of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
This power plant, which will have a capacity of 100 MV and supply electricity to thousands of households in the UAE, will make it possible to avoid the emission of about 175,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide, France's Kapital magazine has reported.
It will take three years and about USD 600 million to build this solar power plant.
Masdar's stake in the investment is 60 percent, whereas its partners Total and Abengoa Solar hold a 20-percent stake each.
