Construction of the "easy" metro in Belgrade will begin in 2010, instead of 2007?
The deadlines for the beginning of construction of the "easy" metro in Belgrade are bit by bit changed by the local authorities.
It was said a year ago that the ground diggers should begin to work in the Boulevard of king Aleksandar in 2007. However, 15 days ago, the city manager, Bojan Stanojevic announced the date for beginning of works in 2008, and on June, 22nd, the vice-mayor, Radmila Hrustanovic stated that the construction was expected for 2010!
And it was not long ago that the same authorities promised from the Old castle that the first line from Ustanicka to Tvornicka in Zemun would be filled with Belgrade citizens in 2012.
Will this "easy" metro be built at all, even tough the money search has begun and the consulting house for this whole deal is being chosen, is a dillema announced by the President of the City's Parliament, Milorad Perovic, expressing support for the idea of construction of classical metro.
Vice-mayor says that the "hard" metro is very expensive and that 15 km of the first line cost 2 billions EUR, while 15 km of "easy" metro can be made for 450 millions EUR.
