Means collected for construction of the Avala tower, works commence at the end of July 2006
Serbian Minister of Capital Investments Velimir Ilić stated that the required financial means had been collected for the construction of the Avala tower, which had been torn down 7 years ago, during the NATO bombing, and he announced that the works on that facility would start at the end of July 2006.
The Board for construction of the Avala tower has made the decision on the announcement of tender. The construction of the Avala tower will cost about 7m EUR and the plan is that the works be finished in 18 months.
The Government of Serbia provided 5m EUR for the construction of the Avala tower. In addition, over 1m EUR was collected in the three-year humanitarian campaign led by the Association of Journalists of Serbia and RTS in cooperation with the City of Belgrade.
"The Avala Tower" was built in 1965 and, thanks to the tower, the television signal was reaching every corner of Serbia, as well as some regions in the surrounding countries.
