Twenty-seven days after the tragedy at the Novi Sad Rail Station, in which, due to the collapse of the canopy, 15 people were killed and two severely injured, the company Serbian Railways Infrastructure launched the negotiation procedure for the preparation of the Study on the estimate of the condition of this station building.

According to the explanation, a classic public call has not been opened for this job and a negotiation procedure has been chosen instead due to the “extreme urgency caused by the event that the procuring entity could not have predicted and in accordance with the strict terms cited in the law.”

It is clear that the eyes of both the experts and the general public will be on the one who gets the job, because, after the canopy collapsed, experts from various fields pointed out on several occasions that, before and during the reconstruction itself, the planners, the contractors and the supervisors, but also the state organs, had failed to do their job, which is why the public has justifiably started doubting the quality of not just these works, but also many other big state infrastructure project that have been carried out in the past years.

Let us remind that the entire station building and the Novi Sad Rail Station itself have not been in operation for safety reasons since November 1. Passenger traffic on the Novi Sad-Belgrade route and vice versa is carried out to and from the Petrovaradin station. Several days ago, the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, announced that the traffic on the Novi Sad-Subotica railroad would most probably be reinstated on December 8, but it remains to be seen whether and how it will be possible to organize a safe reception of passengers at the Novi Sad Rail Station. For now, unofficially, as a temporary solution to the entrance to that station, car access has been mentioned.
