The strengthening of information security, that is, protection from cyber attacks and data safety in the state and private sectors, as well as a further development of digital services for citizens and companies in the next two years, will be the most important priorities of the E-Government Alliance of the National Alliance for Local Economic Development (NALED), it was announced today.

The top of the list of strategic goals also features the introduction of cashless payment for all public services and fees, compensations, tax and non-tax charges. Among the priorities is also the continuation of the provision of active support to the state in the strengthening of the preparedness of clerks and citizens to provide and use eServices, especially locally, as well as the establishment of a modern digital infrastructure in the whole country and the introduction of a digital wallet, NALED says in its press release.

The most important tasks of the alliance are to work on creating the conditions for a systemic implementation of artificial intelligence in the improvement of public services and companies’ operations, to keep state apps and data in the state cloud and to develop and apply the concept of smart cities in Serbia.

The minister for information and telecommunications of Serbia, Dejan Ristic, reminded at the session of the E-Government Alliance that his sector, in cooperation with the Office for Information technologies and Electronic Government, had, not long before, established a new electronic service – a cloud-based eStamp.

– This is a very important step in the further digitization of the operations of the public government and a quicker and more efficient provision of services toward citizens and companies. The results of international reports talk of us as a regional leader in the field of digital transformation. According to the international Network Readiness Index, we have risen by eight places and are now 47th of the 133 countries and far ahead of the countries in the region – pointed out Ristic.

He added that the Global Cybersecurity Index of the International Telecommunication Union had placed Serbia in the first, highest, category and marked it as a “model state.”

– I expect this to be further improved with the adoption of the new Law on Information Security and the amendments to the Law on Electronic Document, Identification and Trust Services in Electronic Business, which should pave the road toward the introduction of a digital wallet in the next two years and a greater protection of the citizens’ personal data – said Ristic.

He said that the continuation of the implementation of the project of the establishment of a broadband communication infrastructure in rural areas would remain high on the list of priorities of his sector and that its expansion to another 200 settlements in the next two years was planned. In that, the ministry can count on NALED’s support, said the president of the E-Government Alliance, Dragana Ilic.

– We will continue having excellent cooperation with the ministry on strengthening the regulations, especially in the field of information security and electronic communications. It is encouraging that there are active efforts on enabling all those pre-conditions for a successful introduction of the 5G network in Serbia. Our main activities remain unchanged there – a transparent unified procedure for the installation of base stations, which will be implemented in the whole Serbia. Thanks to this, a good foundation for the development of new eServices will be established – said Ilic.
