As the media reported, the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, stated on Thursday that the Old Sava Bridge was close to collapsing and that, in its place, despite the pressures, a grand new bridge would be built that all citizens of Belgrade would be proud of, according to him.
– The new Sava bridge will be fully adapted to pedestrians and cyclists, and it will have a total of six traffic lanes, four for cars and two for trams. This will be a much safer, more functional and more beautiful bridge than the old one and all citizens of Belgrade and Serbia will be proud of it – Sinisa Mali wrote today on his Facebook profile.

In that post, he also cited research data according to which, thanks to the new bridge, the number of passengers on Branko’s Bridge will reduce by 8%, on the Gazela Bridge by 5%, and on the Ada Bridge by 4%.
– The length of the new Sava bridge is 420 meters and it will rest on a total of six columns. The width of the bridge is 38 meters, and in the lookout locations, for pedestrians, it’s 42 meters. Two two-way tram traffic will be positioned centrally, and the two-way road traffic will have two driving lanes in each direction, with 6.5 meters per direction. On both sides, there will be pedestrian and cycling lanes, so the new bridge will be fully adapted to pedestrians and cyclists. Also, due to the greater width, the new bridge will enable full navigability on the river Sava through Belgrade – said Mali.
The finance minister said in his post that the construction of the tunnel from the Faculty of Economics to Despota Stefana Blvd was connected to the construction of the new bridge. He added that the bridge would contribute to lowering the traffic concentration in the city center by 17%, but also to reducing the pollution.

– The tunnel will have two traffic lanes in each direction and be around two kilometers long. This is the first tunnel that will be built in Belgrade after more than five decades – Mali pointed out and said that the New Sava Bridge would be completed by the end of 2026.
