Ribarska Banja obtains EUR 4.5 million spa center
A 3,000-square-meter spa center, worth about EUR 4.5 million, was ceremoniously opened on Saturday (5 November 2011) within Special Hospital in Ribarska Banja spa resort.
This spa center is built on the foundations of an old Turkish bath from the 17th century, which was reconstructed and fitted into that contemporary complex.
Numerous guests, including Health Minister Zoran Stankovic, Deputy Prime Minister Ivica Dacic and Patriarch Irinej, pointed to the significance of Ribarska Banja for the country's development - balneo and climate tourism in particular.
Construction of this 3,000-square-meter spa center cost about EUR 4.5 million, about 4m of which were invested by Ribarska Banja, whereas the Ministry of Health and the National Investment Plan (NIP) provided EUR 250,000 each.
The spa center comprises an outdoor/indoor swimming pool with thermal water, rooms for over 20 different massages, an amphitheater with 300 seats, a Turkish bath, and fitness halls.
It was ceremoniously opened by Health Minister Zoran Stankovic, Princess Jelisaveta Karadjordjevic and Spa Director Branislav Katancevic in the presence of few hundred guests from the world of politics, culture and diplomacy.
Minister Stankovic said that the spa center in Ribarska Banja would help both Serbia and the region in the development, primarily the development of balneo and climate tourism.
Princess Jelisaveta stated that Ribarska Banja was "a pearl of entire eastern Europe and a real magnet for tourists."
Katancevic added that the whole project, worth about EUR 5.5 million, would also include the reconstruction of Hercegovina villa and the construction of a footbridge to the spa center.
According to his words, the reconstruction of the villa Hercegovina will kick off in November and, once the works are completed, the complex of Ribarska Banja will have about 5,000 square meters of useful space.
His Holiness Patriarch Irinej said he was of the opinion that Europe had no similar spa center.
Ribarska Banja has 520 beds in Special Hospital, 420 beds in private accommodation, and 220 beds in new villas at the entrance to the spa resort, which has a daily average of 1,200 patients and about 900 tourists.
