Serbia could soon get at least 3 more commercial and civil airports, in the game are military air ports in Ladevci, Uzice, and Sombor
Even tough in Serbia exist for a number of years almost 10 airports, at the moment only 2 of those are doing commercial traffic flights - Belgrade's 'Nikola Tesla' and Nis' 'Konstantin the Great'.
In spite of all shots, neither one of the airports in Serbia managed to solve all problems on the way of transition to civil air traffic, but mostly they are left unused as military airports, without any traffic.
Howeber, lateley, there seem to be some advance in this direction. At the moment it is in consideration to open up a military airport in Ladevci near Kraljevo for a mixed traffic.
In this town it is believed that the idea of openning airport runways for civil flights should be supported, as this would serve to development of tourism, considering that this airport has a good position as it is between Zlatibor and Vrnjacka Banja.
Similar activity is proposed for Uzice's airport "Ponikve" as well, where it was already announced that on May, 17th, 2006, with the financial support of Government of Serbia and 'Nikola Tesla' Airport, there will be organized promotional flight Belgrade-Ponikve-Belgrade. Presidents of the counties of Uzice region, as well as enterprisers of this area remind that civil airport in Ponikve was of extreme importance for the region, whose commerce is oriented towards exporting, and it also has large tourist capacities.
It is estimated that 'Ponikve' airport would be also interested for cargo and touristic transport, and considering that it has one of the longest runways on the Balkans and the fewest number of days with the fog per year, it is suitable for planes of all sizes.
A military airport in Sombor is also getting ready for transport to civil on, but there is a problem with financies. President of Sombor county, Jovan Slavkovic says that the airport is very damaged in bombing of 1999, and it needs large investments to make it ready for traffic. However, it is considered in Sombor that there is place on the market for this project, as in Vojvodina there is no second commerical airport.
