The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has projected that, excluding Malta, Serbia will have the fastest economic growth in Europe in 2024, as announced in the World Economic Outlook (WEO), reports the Danas daily portal.

According to the IMF, this year, the economy of Serbia will grow at a rate of 3.9%, and next year, at 4.1%. For Malta, the Fund projects a growth of 5% this year and 4% next year, according to the WEO.

As for the inflation, the Fund expect the average inflation in Serbia to be at 4.5% this year and 3.6% next year. At the European level, that is a high inflation rate, although lower than in Romania or Poland.

The growth of the deficit of the current account of Serbia is expected to continue. This year, it will amount to 4.2% of the gross domestic product (GDP), and last year, it was 2.6%. For 2025, a deficit of 4.8% of the GDP is projected.

Unemployment is projected at around 9%, which is among the higher values in Europe, behind Greece and Spain, and excluding Turkey and the war-affected Ukraine.
