Twenty years after entering the market of Serbia, the international transport and logistics company Gebrüder Weiss is drawing positive conclusions.
– Serbia has experienced a remarkable economic growth in the past years. We were right when we decided to build a central logistics hub for the Western Balkans here – Wolfram Senger-Weiss, CEO of Gebrüder Weiss, explained to media representatives in Belgrade on October 18.

Serbia has developed into an attractive market for the purchase of car parts, food, textile and furniture. Around 70 percent of the exports go to the EU. Furthermore, this country in the Balkans is the main supplier of agricultural products for many neighboring countries, including Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and North Macedonia.

Today, Gebrüder Weiss offers to its customers in Serbia land, air and maritime transport, customs clearance and logistics solutions. Several times a week, groupage transport to neighboring countries and the EU internal market is done. The logistics company has a total of 20,000 square meters of logistics space in the country. In 2023, the company realized a net turnover of 53 million euros.

In addition to the seat in Dobanovci near Belgrade, Gebrüder Weiss has another three locations in Serbia: in Novi Sad in the north and in Nis and Strojkovce near Leskovac in the south. In Dobanovci, a new logistics warehouse was put into operation recently. So far, the company has invested over 20 million euros in their logistics warehouses.

Another focus is the topic of sustainability. The location in Dobanovci meets all its electrical energy needs from a solar system, which reduces CO2 emissions by 90 tons a year. Eight trucks running on natural gas (CNG) operate four routes for the industry of consumer goods. In addition to that, washing and cleaning products are transported by rail to Germany in a sustainable way.

– Each year, 1,500 containers are transported by rail from Budapest to the Ruhr Area. That means that we save more than a thousand tons of CO2 compared to conventional truck transport – explains Roland Raith, Managing Director for Serbia and Montenegro at Gebrüder Weiss. Next year, no-emission e-transporters will also be used for deliveries to end-buyers in Serbia.
Having started in 2004 with a small office in Belgrade, Gebrüder Weiss now employs 300 people in Serbia. Gebrüder Weiss was one of the first logistics companies to apply the principle of dual education for young experts here. Since 2018, young specialists have been going through both practical and academic training in cooperation with the Transport and Technical Vocational School in Belgrade.
